How to Get Your SaaS Recommended by ChatGPT in 2026
Yorker Media Editorial · 28 October 2026 · 14 min read

You cannot pay for a guaranteed ChatGPT recommendation. In 2026, the practical route is to make your SaaS easy for systems and buyers to understand: publish current pricing, plans, integrations, security details, availability and limitations; keep those facts consistent across credible sources; create pages that answer comparison questions; and measure which prompts produce accurate mentions. If your product completes a useful action in conversation, submit a focused ChatGPT app for review. Use advertising for labeled advertising, not as a shortcut into organic answers. Treat every recommendation as an observed outcome to improve, not a ranking position OpenAI has promised.
| Route | Best for | Audience or trigger | Cost model | AI visibility signal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iTechGuides, Yorker Media’s own software directory | A listed, sponsored or featured profile ChatGPT already reads | Software buyers researching a category | Sponsored listing, featured placement or sponsored article | ≈7,774 AI-assistant visits per day (21–27 Oct 2026); ≈4,050 ChatGPT-User reads of its pages per day |
| Yorker Media sponsored visibility (network-wide) | Reaching software buyers across specialist sites | Sponsored listings, featured placements or sponsored articles | Campaign budget selected by the advertiser | Qualified referrals, brand visibility and AI-cited publisher pages |
| ChatGPT product and web discovery | Being considered for a buyer’s stated need | A user asks for software, comparisons or a solution | No guaranteed paid inclusion | Current, comparable product information and relevant web sources |
| ChatGPT app directory | Completing a focused task inside a conversation | User names the app or selects it from tools | Build and review effort; approval is discretionary | Published app, usage and potential future featuring |
| OpenAI ads | Labeled commercial reach | Commercial-intent ad retrieval | Paid advertising; separate from answer generation | Ad impressions and conversions, not organic recommendations |
| Yorker Analytics observation | Setting a measurement baseline | 7-day reporting window, 21–27 Oct 2026 | Reporting, not a ranking promise | Across our network (37 measured sites): 80,997 AI-assistant visits; ChatGPT sent 98.1% |
Where does ChatGPT already read software listings?
Start with the evidence closest to home. iTechGuides, Yorker Media’s own software directory, is read by ChatGPT while it answers: Cloudflare-verified ChatGPT-User fetches of its pages ran at about 4,050 reads a day over the 24 hours to 28 Oct 2026, and the site drew about 7,774 AI-assistant visits a day over 21–27 Oct 2026 (98.7% from ChatGPT). Across our network, AI-referred sessions that land on a /best/ list page click out to a listed product 11.7% of the time (n = 2,561), against 7.2% for AI sessions generally and 5.1% for search sessions — so a listing readers actually reach converts attention into clicks more often than an average visit does.
That is evidence that ChatGPT retrieves and cites these pages and that their readers click through, not evidence that ChatGPT’s own answer text names or recommends a particular listed brand; we do not make that claim. A sponsored listing, featured placement or sponsored article on iTechGuides, or elsewhere in the Yorker Media network, is the direct way to be on a page systems already read, while you separately do the evidence and measurement work below for your own owned pages.
Can you pay ChatGPT to recommend your SaaS?
No. OpenAI says product results are selected independently by ChatGPT and are not ads or influenced by OpenAI partnerships. Buying an ad can put a labeled promotion in an advertising system, but it does not purchase an organic answer mention. Read the distinction in OpenAI’s product-results guidance and its advertising overview.
OpenAI’s October 21, 2026 advertising article reports more than 100,000 advertisers and a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate less than 200 days after launch. Those figures describe the scale of advertising, not a recommendation formula. Keep paid experiments clearly labeled and evaluate them against ad reach, qualified visits and conversions rather than assuming they will change answers.
For a SaaS, the ethical commercial choices are straightforward: improve the evidence available to discovery systems, build an app when it genuinely helps users, and buy labeled visibility when you need guaranteed media placement. Never promise a client that an ad, sponsorship or partnership guarantees a ChatGPT recommendation.
What information does ChatGPT use when it recommends software?
OpenAI describes recommendations as intent-led and data-led. Documented inputs include structured metadata from first-party and third-party providers, other third-party content, model responses generated before new search results and safety policies. OpenAI does not publish a deterministic business score or weighting system, so the useful objective is accurate, current and comparable information.
Start with one plain-language description that answers six questions:
- What job does the product complete?
- Who is the intended customer and team size?
- Which integrations and deployment options are supported?
- How do plans, usage limits and billing work?
- In which countries or regulated environments is it available?
- What does it not do, or which use cases are out of scope?
Repeat those facts on the homepage, documentation, pricing page, integration pages, comparison pages and credible company profiles. Consistency gives systems fewer conflicting descriptions to reconcile; it is evidence-building, not a guaranteed switch. OpenAI’s shopping documentation is the primary reference for product-data inputs.
Is ChatGPT visibility the same as ordinary search visibility?
No. A system can use information already associated with its model and can also retrieve pages at question time. These channels overlap, but neither is a public ranking position that a SaaS can reserve.
Make important facts crawlable in server-delivered text where practical. Keep plan names, feature limits, prices, availability, supported regions and integration details current. Correct stale marketplace records and contradictory partner profiles. Structured data can support ordinary search eligibility, but Google’s guidance for AI features says special generative-AI markup is not required.
Crawlers and citations are signals to observe, not guarantees. Across 33 of our sites with full logs, OAI-SearchBot made 1,700,475 fetches of 827,775 distinct URLs in 7 days (21–27 Oct 2026). That is a Yorker Media crawl observation, not evidence that a particular page will be recommended. Make access reliable, then watch which pages are fetched and cited.
Should your SaaS build a ChatGPT app?
Build an app when it completes a focused action that users already want to perform in conversation. OpenAI describes apps as bringing new context into chats and letting users take actions; users can trigger a connected app by naming it or selecting it from the tools menu. See the Apps SDK documentation and OpenAI’s app announcement.
Good candidates include querying account data, generating a report, checking project status, configuring a workflow or starting an approved task. A vague “ask our bot anything” app is harder to explain, review and trust.
Design the smallest useful permission set. Explain what data is sent, what is stored, who can act on the result and how a user can revoke access. Prepare a clear privacy policy, security documentation, error handling and human escalation path before submission. OpenAI says apps meeting quality and safety standards may be published, and apps that resonate with users may later be featured more prominently or recommended. Publication, featuring and recommendation remain discretionary.
Which pages should a SaaS publish first?
Publish pages that answer buyer questions directly, with a table or concise answer near the top. This gives retrieval systems a precise source and gives a human enough context to decide whether to continue.
Prioritize these page types:
- Category and audience pages: “best [category] for [team or industry]” with explicit fit and exclusions.
- Use-case pages: the workflow, inputs, outputs, integrations and expected implementation effort.
- Alternatives and comparison pages: comparable features, plan limits, security, support and migration considerations.
- Pricing and plan pages: current prices, billing cadence, seats, usage allowances, trials and overage rules. Pricing and plans should be marked checked October 2026 when that is the review date.
- Integration pages: supported versions, setup steps, permissions and known limitations.
- Security and compliance pages: hosting regions, encryption claims, retention, subprocessors and certification status, stated precisely.
- Availability pages: supported countries, languages, currencies and regulatory boundaries.
Do not create a page that says your product is “best” without explaining for whom and why. Comparisons should acknowledge where another tool is a better fit. That honesty helps buyers and reduces the risk of an answer repeating an overbroad claim.
What does Yorker’s data suggest about page format?
Our observations indicate that answer-first structure can improve the chance that a crawled page earns an AI visit, but the figures are directional and limited to our properties. Across our network, per page that OpenAI crawls, “best X for Y” lists earned 8–16x the AI visits of a generic post, alternatives pages about 7x, and how-to pages 2–4x.
Within our network, when the same topic appeared on two of our sites, the answer-first copy on our largest site (a table up top, question headings answered first, an FAQ and a true updated date) earned 9–70x the AI clicks of the older long-form copy on the other site; where both copies were answer-first, the gap was about 2x.. These are format observations, not OpenAI ranking factors. Use them to decide what to test in your own analytics, not as a promise of recommendation.
Directory list pages were our strongest AI earners per crawled page: about 3,670 AI visits across our network in the 21–27 Oct 2026 window. On our largest site, about 2,644 visits came from roughly 1,050 list pages that received at least one AI visit; about 1,030 came from roughly 620 pages on our other sites. The scope is the 21–27 Oct 2026 reporting window, and the numbers describe visits, not sales or guaranteed citations.
How should you measure whether ChatGPT mentions you?
Use a fixed prompt set, a dated log and first-party analytics. Write prompts around real buying intent: “best CRM for a five-person agency,” “software that integrates with [system],” “secure alternative to [competitor]” and “which tool fits [region or compliance need]?” Run the same prompts by market and record the answer, cited URLs, product facts, competitors named and whether the description is accurate.
Google documents a Generative AI performance report in Search Console. Combine that first-party reporting with referral analytics, app installs, qualified leads and conversion quality. OpenAI does not publish an official recommendation score, and no third-party tool has private Google ranking metrics. Treat prompt-monitoring products as operational aids that require independent validation.
Separate three outcomes in your dashboard:
- Earned visibility: an answer names or cites your product without a paid placement.
- Product engagement: an app is opened, connected or used to complete a task.
- Paid visibility: a sponsored listing, featured placement, sponsored article or ad produces a labeled impression or referral.
On our largest site, 98.7% of AI-assistant visits in the 21–27 Oct 2026 window came from ChatGPT. Across our network (37 measured sites), 73.5% of AI sessions were on phones and 88.7% came from outside the US. Build reporting that reflects those audiences instead of assuming desktop, US-only demand.
Which comparison criteria matter when ChatGPT evaluates SaaS tools?
Give buyers comparable facts rather than a slogan. The most useful axes are fit for the stated job and audience; feature and integration coverage; price and plan limits; implementation effort; security and data handling; geographic or regulatory availability; support quality; and evidence freshness.
A comparison table can include columns for ideal customer, primary workflow, key integrations, seats or usage limits, starting plan, security controls, deployment region, migration effort and last-checked date. If a field is unknown, say so. Do not infer a competitor’s capabilities from an outdated review.
OpenAI’s product-discovery materials describe side-by-side details such as price, reviews and features, while its shopping-research materials discuss price, availability, reviews, specifications and images. For SaaS, that translates into a canonical plan-and-feature page and synchronized catalog or merchant records where you maintain a commerce-like listing. OpenAI’s product-discovery announcement explains the comparison direction.
How should you use advertising and sponsored media?
Use advertising when you need predictable, labeled reach to a defined audience. Evaluate a sponsored listing or featured placement by qualified visits, demo starts, pipeline and brand lift; evaluate an organic ChatGPT mention by accuracy, citations, referral quality and repeat visibility. They are different channels with different controls.
Yorker Media sells sponsored listings, featured placements, sponsored articles and brand visibility across a network of specialist sites. A well-labeled article or directory placement can expose your SaaS to readers who are already comparing tools and can provide a clear, current description for publishers and discovery systems to reference. It still does not guarantee that ChatGPT will name the product.
For small categories, avoid overinterpreting thin samples. Across 5 of our sites, CRM pages generated 11.4 AI visits per day in the 21–27 Oct 2026 window; 24 pages earned AI visits in 7 days, and 73 in 30 days, including 14 directory list pages. That is a narrow Yorker sample, not a market-wide CRM benchmark. By contrast, VPN pages across 13 of our sites generated 84.4 AI visits per day, with 99.5% from ChatGPT; 245 pages earned AI visits in 7 days. Keep category reports separate so a high-volume topic does not distort expectations for a smaller one.
What is a practical 30-day implementation plan?
Days 1–5: establish facts. Choose one canonical product description. Audit plan names, prices, limits, integrations, regions, security claims and exclusions. Add a checked date to pricing and comparison content; pricing and plans are checked October 2026 for this article.
Days 6–12: improve retrieval. Move essential facts into crawlable text, resolve contradictory profiles and publish or update category, use-case, alternatives, integration and security pages. Add tables and direct answers before long explanations. Use ordinary structured data where appropriate, without claiming it is special AI markup.
Days 13–20: create a useful action. Decide whether an app can complete one narrow workflow. Document data handling, permissions, privacy and failure states. Build with the Apps SDK, then submit for review if the experience is ready.
Days 21–25: instrument measurement. Freeze a prompt list by audience and market. Save answer text, cited URLs, product accuracy, referral source and conversion events. Add Search Console’s generative-AI reporting where available and label paid traffic separately.
Days 26–30: choose distribution. Publish genuinely useful comparisons, brief sales and support teams on the canonical facts, and select sponsored placements when they match your audience. Review results monthly because product discovery, app-directory rules, advertising availability and reporting features can change quickly.
How to get featured with Yorker Media
Yorker Media can plan sponsored listings, featured placements, sponsored articles and broader AI visibility for SaaS, software, VPN, hosting and AI-tool brands. See live placements and book in one cart, or learn more about advertising. Campaigns are labeled advertising and should be measured alongside, not confused with, earned ChatGPT visibility.
FAQ
Will getting cited by a publisher guarantee a ChatGPT recommendation?
No. A citation can provide current, specific evidence, but OpenAI has not published a formula that converts citations into recommendations. Track whether the page is retrieved, cited and represented accurately across a fixed prompt set.
Does submitting a ChatGPT app cost money?
The research does not specify a universal submission fee or commercial terms. Budget for product development, privacy and security work, maintenance and review preparation, and verify current requirements in OpenAI’s developer documentation before committing.
How often should SaaS pricing and plan data be refreshed?
Refresh immediately after any pricing, limit, availability or packaging change, then run a scheduled audit at least monthly. Keep the checked date visible so buyers and publishers can distinguish current facts from archived comparisons.
Can an app be recommended even if users do not know its name?
OpenAI says connected apps can be triggered when a user names the app or selects it from the tools menu, and that resonant apps may later be recommended. Design around a clear user intent, but treat discovery and featuring as discretionary outcomes.
What should a SaaS do if ChatGPT describes it incorrectly?
Identify the inaccurate claim and the strongest current source, then correct your own pages and authoritative profiles. Record the prompt, date, answer and cited URL, and use the evidence to improve documentation rather than making an unsupported claim about a ranking penalty.
